In the past year or so, I lost a lot of my favorite shows. Breaking Bad, 30 Rock, and How I Met Your Mother all said goodbye and left me a much more vulnerable sad human. Plus, to add to that the season of Girls just ended and right now, New Girl has a two week break. If you’re a TV junkie like me and you need a new hit or if you’re just looking to try a new show, the good news is a lot is starting up this spring.
1. Inside Amy Schumer:
It’s actually season two of this show, but the good news is two fold. First off, it’s a sketch show mixed with her stand up so you are able to jump in wherever you want without missing a beat. Second off, you can actually watch full episodes on Comedy Central’s website! And the best news of all it’s absolutely hilarious. Here is a clip from the season two premiere where they have a focus group together asking a bunch of men what they liked about season one, and it quickly turns into a conversation about if they would bang her.
This looks so fricken cool, for starters I want to congratulate FX for having a killer advertising team because all of the posters and commercials fully are aware of their target audience. Fargo is an adaptation of the Academy Award winning Cohen Brothers movie Fargo, and the Cohen Brothers are executive producers on this one. Other big names involved in it are Academy Award winning actor Billy Bob Thorton, Emmy Nominated and BAFTA Award winning actor Martin Freeman, Colin Hanks, Bob Odenkirk, Kate Walsh and so many more, the cast is phenomenal enough to sell me alone. This one starts April 15th on FX at 10pm and I can tell you one thing, I’ll be watching.
3. Game of Thrones
By now you have probably heard all about Game of Thrones, and even if you haven’t seen it, you’ve at least seen people’s reactions to the Red Wedding. If you’re not watching it, I promise it’s exactly that intense almost the entire show. If that doesn’t sell you on it, just know. There are dragons. You can catch up on all of Game of Thrones on HBO Go. I highly suggest you adopt the new policy my friends and I are starting, Bloody Sunday. Bloody Mary’s for the bloodiest show on television.
4. Silicon Valley
I’m so excited for this show. I’ve been trying to figure out what to fill the void of How I Met Your Mother and 30 Rock and I’m hoping for this one to come through for me. This show comes from creator Mike Judge, who brought us such amazing-ness as Office Space, and is partially based on his life as a programmer in Silicon Valley. The overall nerdiness and general fucked up characters looks like it will speak to me on a personal level.
This is another one of those shows that I feel like not enough people absolutely adore. The insults in this show are spot on 100% of the time and the writing is quick and all around general perfection. Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ anger at people’s general stupidity speaks to my soul and I adore it. Veep is on Sunday nights after Silicon Valley on HBO and all of season one and two are streaming on HBO Go.
These are my five choices. Am I missing any goodies? Let me know if the comments below 😀
